Dear Parents and Learners
Special notice:
Unfortunately we did not have a quorum for the budget meeting so will hold the ratification of the 2018 budget on 31st October 2017 at 18.00 in the school hall. It is important that you diarise this event and attend. Please make it a priority.
Textbooks:
All textbooks and other items from the media centre need to be returned according to the time table that was issued in October. No deposits can be used to replace lost or damaged textbooks. The learners will have to pay R200 per book that has been lost or damaged on or before the 5th December 2017 to the accounts office. All receipts must be handed to the media centre. All books have to be repaired and processed for 2018 before staff go on holiday on Friday 8th December 2017. Parents, we are asking for your assistance to ensure that we have a smooth start to the new year.
Programme for the 25th November – 1st December 2017:
Learners coming to school for any reason must wear correct full uniform or correct PT kit. School ID cards will need to be presented at the security gate – no temporary ID’s will be accepted this week. No other learners are allowed on the property. This is to ensure the safety and security of all staff and learners on the property.
Please come and join in one or more of the following activities:
- Senior RCL training 25th October 9.00 – 13.00
- Community service with Interact each day of the week – see programme with Mrs Joseph
- General fitness training 8.30 – 10.30 each day
- Media centre- book repairs – all media monitors are requested to be present from 8.30 to 12.00 each day
- House play practice from 11.00 – 13.00 each day
Reports for the end of the year
Reports will be handed out from the hall between 8.30 and 9.30 on the 6th December 2017. Learners must have returned all textbooks before collecting reports. The media centre will be open from 7am on that day. Learners can come in civvies and must present their school ID card in order to receive a report.
Any requests for change of subjects for 2018 must be made in writing, by completing the correct form, to Mrs Kata by 12:00 on Thursday 7th December 2017. No change of subjects will be granted in 2018.
Any appeals must be done on 6th December 2017 by completing the correct documents and handing them to Mrs Kata by 12:00 on 7th December 2017.
Ongoing Concerns
We are addressing the issue of ‘Drugs in schools’ and will be doing random searches and random drug testing. Children are buying and eating dagga cookies and thinking it’s okay. If you are concerned about your child’s behaviour, please let us know so that we can offer support and keep our school DRUG FREE!
Please take note of where your children are gathering after school. Learners should not be gambling at the bottom of the road but instead going home. Please organize transport to fetch them so that they do not hang around and get up to mischief.
We are also addressing the litter in the school. Some learners are just too lazy to put the litter into a bin even if they are sitting right next to it. It is everyone’s responsibility to STOP, PICK IT UP and PUT IT IN THE BIN. Everyone can help and do their bit to keep the environment clean.
Uniform: Learners must wear correct summer uniform this term. No beanies or scarves will be allowed. The school baseball cap or cricket hat may be worn. The grade 11 and 12 learners should be wearing blazers at all times. Please ensure that the boys and girls’ hair styles are in line with the school rules. The wearing of caps is not an excuse for incorrect hairstyles. Dri-macs are worn in rainy weather only or for sport. Please ensure that your child is correctly dressed for school.
We have new track suit tops available for the learners. These tops match the track suit pants that are available. The tracksuit items are not compulsory. The learners who would like to purchase a tracksuit top need to pay R 390 at the accounts office and try on the samples to order the correct size. No orders will be placed unless items have been paid for. Your assistance in this regard will be appreciated.
Reminders:
Learners returning to school after 17th January 2018:
A letter of request addressed to the Principal should be presented, except in the case of an emergency e.g. death in the family. This is to ensure that we keep a space for your child.
Counselling:
All educators are available should you need to speak to anyone. If the matter is sensitive, you may put it in writing to the Principal and the matter will then be forwarded to the relevant person to assist you.
The Heads of Grade assist with discipline and academic problems.
The SBST member for general counselling is Mrs Kata.
The SBST member for homework sessions in the afternoon is Ms Zerf.
The SBST member for account related issues and the feeding scheme is Mrs Healey.
The Student Liaison officer, Mrs van der Heever, is responsible for general counselling and basic first aid assistance.
The social worker, Mrs Hennessy, is available on referral from one of the above SBST members and she will make an appointment with the learner and/or family.
Road safety:
Do not walk or play in the road. When getting out of taxis, please do not just rush across the road – first check for oncoming vehicles.
Parental details:
Please make sure that we have correct contact cell number and e-mail details for both parents as well as an emergency contact number that is working. You can update your details directly if you are using the Principal Talk app or send an SMS to us or an e-mail.
